The Crew

The Crew

Operating a large sled dog kennel and a remote homestead in the wilderness on a 65° latitude, where weather conditions can be very harsh and cabin fever can strike during the dark winter times, where everything is very real and every mistake can have serious impact, is quite a job.
It´s definitely not for everyone and no matter what, you are constantly looking into a mirror. You learn a lot about yourself and you learn it the hard way.

Being able to successfully operate a settlement like this, where our top priority has always been and always will be the well being and happiness of our dogs (and all the other critters residing here) requires dedicated, committed people.
Year round, the Kipp d´Amundsen Kennels and the Nordic Husky Farm homestead are operated by Jachym and myself (Katerina), and kennel help/dog handlers, who come from all parts of the world for different periods of time to help and gain experience. Together, we are what we call THE CREW :)

Without the crew of loving, caring, hard working, dedicated folks, it would simply not work out and the top care and wellness of our dogs would be compromised.
Many of the folks who came here and dedicated their lives to the dogs and to the homestead became dear friends, some returning even several times.

On this page, we not only want to acknowledge them and thank them, but we gave space to them to say a few words about their experience of being a part of THE CREW.

Ahoj!

It´s great to work with dogs in a place where they are really well taken care of and loved and where they are happy!

It was very nice to know you and your dogs, and I will miss them and working here. I would like to come back sometimes, maybe in winter, and see your fantastic dogs running, that would be amazing. So, who knows :)

I know that everything will go very well for you and you will be happy! Thanks a lot for all.

Huge hug for you and the doggies. Good luck and see you soon, Raúl

Katka Schánělcová
June 2012 - May 2013 and February/March 2014

Zkušenosti přicházely každý den nové a nové.

Pomocí pozitivní komunikace, klikrtreninku, a jiných různých her, které pejsky bavily..

Den začíná tmou i končí.

We are proud to say that Kristyna has opened her own training center and dog school, where she helps dogs and people to better relationship with the help of positive reinforcement and learning through games. We are glad she feels the experience of working with our large pack of Siberian huskies has helped her learn more about dog communication and convinced her that there is no untrainable dog if there are the right methods! :)

Check out her website here.

We would also like to express a special thank you to Kristyna for introducing us to proper use of clicker training and really pulling us into the world of positive reinforcement based training, for developing the Kipp d´Amundsen Kennels dog handling manual for our kennel helpers and dog handlers, and for her continuous cooperation.

November 2011 - February 2012

We spent 4 months here working with Kat and Jac, it was real roller-coaster but our overwhelming feeling was that it was a really, really enjoyable time.
You don´t have to be mad to work here, but it helps! :) :) :)

I suspect it is one of those experiences that we will remember for all our lives.

Lots of laughter, cold, snow, beautiful scenery and chance to experience real Swedish wilderness!

The dogs are all unique and fun characters and if you contribute a lot, you will get a lot out of your time here!

November 2011 - February 2012

I had a fantastic four months, fell in  love with all the dogs, but particularly Granite, Music, Magneto, Modra, Mouse, Cora and Tolly!
Mio is really a human in cat form and would loving in Ireland! :)

Lots of laughter and fun and lots of hard work too.

Really enjoyed the snow, cold, clear sunny skies and peace and quiet.

Movie nights and Jachym´s pizza were great too.

Thanks Kipp d´Amundsen Kennels!

With Steve and Reb, two crazy and most wonderful folks from Ireland.

Míša Pavlíková
March 2011 - June 2011

I would like to be able to express what I feel right now, but I think that whatever I write doesn´t even come close to the real feelings...

What can I say - a while ago I came back from the doggies to say my last good bye and I was absolutely swept by all those emotions, jumping, licking, nibbling, of the creatures I have come to love so much. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to experience such pure uncomplicated love.

Working as a handler is sometimes tiring, especially when you come late at night from monthly shopping and need to feed over 50 dogs, or when you are trying to clean up soft poop after a heavy rain :) But the reward is big.

I enjoyed my time here also because I learned more about who I am and what I want and need in life. All in all, a lot of lessons about love, patience, appreciation, endurance and so on. All this with the help of two people brave enough to live this dream in the face of adversity - Katerina and Jachym.

And not to forget - I witnessed the wonderful miracle of life, seeing puppies grow from day one to five weeks age!

Thank you for sharing this wealth you have, with me.

Yours, Míša

March 2011 - June 2011

Dear Katerina and Jachym, living here for three months was a wonderful experience!

It is hard to share in  words how I feel, but I guess you know pretty well how I feel, since it was a mutual experience :)

I am so incredibly grateful and happy that I have been living here so long with you and all the doggies! And I will definitely keep in touch, we both will!

Misa and Nardo with the "J" litter aka Whiskies, June 2011

You and all the dogs have become very dear to me and I love to stay in touch to witness you and the dogs and the puppies grow!

Hopefully we will settle not too far from Sweden, but no distance is too far to visit friends, weather two or four-legged!

Thank you so much for everything, love and hugs, N.

With heavy heart...
after two months I am leaving wonderland! And all these creatures who belong to this place. No matter if they are mainly speaking, barking, howling, meowing, or just buzzing. I will miss all of you so much! Thank you for letting me feel like a part of one great family. I am and always be proud of it. We will surely meet again soon.

September 2011
Once again I am leaving Swedish wilderness behind.

I spent here such beautiful moments, met really great people and learned how to love things which come my way without asking me if I wanted them.
And I will always keep wonderful memories. I will miss you all very much. And always look forward the reunion.

Thank you for all I learned, I experienced and I got!
